What is a hanging display card?

A hanging display card is a printed card with a slot or hole at the top so the product can hang from a peg hook, a clip strip or a slatwall. The product is fixed to the card, sealed in a bag with a folded header, or packed in a small box with a hang tab. On the peg, the card faces the shopper like a tiny poster.

Hanging displays are how small products earn space in shops where shelves are full. A peg on a gondola end or a clip strip beside the till takes almost no room and carries a whole row of packs.

For brands, hanging formats are also one of the cheapest ways into a new shop. A strip of pegs takes almost nothing from the shop owner, and a tidy row of printed cards makes a strong first impression.

Which hanging formats do we print?

All of them are printed full colour on both sides and cut to your size.

  • Header card: a folded card stapled over the top of a bag of product.
  • Backing card: a flat card the product is fixed to, often die cut to a shape.
  • Hang tab box: a small carton with a tall tab and a euro slot at the top.
  • Card with blister: a backing card with a clear blister holding the product.

Where do hanging cards sell?

Pharmacies, phone shops, hardware stores, garden centres, gift shops, petrol stations and craft shops. Anywhere with pegboard, slatwall or a clip strip. Hanging products also sit well on a counter stand with pegs, which lets a small shop give you hanging space without a wall.

For products that sit rather than hang, lip balm display boxes show the same small items on a counter.

Garden centres and hardware shops in particular rely on pegboard, and products that arrive ready to hang are much easier for them to range than loose items needing a shelf.

Why use a shaped backing card?

A die cut shape makes a small product look bigger and more distinctive on a crowded peg. A fork, a leaf, a bottle or your logo outline will stand out against rows of plain rectangles. Shapes cost a little more than straight edges because they need their own cutting form, but the effect on a busy wall is often worth it.

Keep the shape simple enough to stack and pack. Very thin points or narrow necks can bend in transit, so we suggest small adjustments on the proof if a part of the outline is too fragile.

Which board is used for hanging cards?

Card is standard, because it is thin enough to fold for headers and stiff enough to hang flat. Hang tab boxes use heavier card or E flute when the product has some weight.

How should a hanging card be printed?

The front has seconds to work, so keep it to the brand, the product name and one reason to buy. Bright colour helps a card stand out on a wall of competitors. The back carries the detail: how to use it, what is in it, contact details and the barcode.

Matt lamination keeps the card readable under strong lights; gloss gives richer colour. Foil on a small logo is an affordable way to make a card look special.

Remember that cards hang in rows, often several of the same product one behind another. Only the front card is fully visible, so the top strip around the hole should carry the brand as well, because it is what people see of the cards behind.

Euro slot or round hole

A euro slot fits standard peg hooks and stops the card spinning. A round hole is simpler and suits single pegs and clip strips. Many cards have both.

How do we size a hanging card?

  1. Send the size of the product, or the bag it comes in.
  2. Tell us how it attaches: fixed to the card, in a bag, or in a box.
  3. Choose the hanging hole: euro slot, round hole or both.
  4. We size the card with a margin around the product and room for the hole.
  5. The proof shows the card full size with the product outline marked.

How much space above the product?

Enough for the hole and a strip of print, usually a few centimetres. Too little and the hook scrapes the product; too much and the card looks empty at the top. We set the hole so the card hangs straight with the product attached, which matters for heavier items that would otherwise tilt forward.

If the cards will hang on a clip strip, the strip itself covers part of the top, so allow a little extra blank space there.

Will the card fit standard pegs?

Yes. Euro slots are cut to fit standard peg hooks used in UK shops. If your stockist uses a specific clip strip, send its hole spacing and we match it.

Tell us if the product will also be sold from a counter box. We can add a fold at the bottom so the same card stands in a tray as well as hanging.

Back of card space

The back of a hanging card is read once the product is in the hand. Use it for directions, ingredients or a short brand story.

How do I order hanging display cards?

Send the product size, the format and the quantity. We email a price within one working day and then send a free proof showing the card full size. Production takes 5 to 7 working days after approval. For strong front designs, read our tips for designing header cards.

How are hanging cards delivered?

Flat cards ship in bundles; folded headers ship pre-scored so they fold cleanly over your bags; hang tab boxes ship flat. Tracked delivery is free to any UK mainland address and arrives in 2 to 3 working days. Report misprints or damage within 10 days and we reprint or refund them.

Repeat orders reuse the same cutting form, so reprints with a new design are quick to arrange.

Hanging Display Cards FAQs

More answers in Help

How much do hanging display cards cost?

From £0.25 a card. Size, board, shape, print and quantity set the quoted price.

What is a euro slot?

A shaped hanging hole that fits standard peg hooks and stops the card from spinning.

Can a card have a euro slot and a round hole?

Yes. Many cards have both so they suit pegs and clip strips.

Can the card be cut to a shape?

Yes. Die cut backing cards can follow a logo or product outline.

Do you print both sides?

Yes. The front sells, the back carries detail and the barcode.

Can you make header cards for bags?

Yes. Folded header cards are scored to fold neatly over the top of your bags.

How heavy can a hanging product be?

Light products hang on card. Heavier products need a hang tab box or a stronger card, so tell us the weight.

Will the card bend on the hook?

Not if the board suits the product weight. We choose a card stiff enough to hang flat.

Do you supply the bags or blisters?

We print the cards and boxes. Tell us if you need bags or blisters and we will advise on fitting.

Can hanging cards go on a counter stand?

Yes. A counter stand with pegs gives hanging space in shops without a wall.

What finish suits a hanging card?

Matt lamination for readability, gloss for brighter colour, foil for a small highlight.

How many cards can I order?
