What do inserts do inside a display?

They keep order. A display without an insert relies on its walls to hold products, which works for flat packs and fails for anything round, tall, fragile or mixed. An insert gives each item its own place, so the display looks the same on the first day and the last, and nothing rolls, tips or knocks against its neighbour.

Inserts also protect products when a display travels full, and they make restocking easier because empty spaces show exactly what has sold.

For brands, an insert is one of the cheapest ways to make a display look carefully made. The outer box can be simple; the insert, cut exactly to the product, is what shoppers notice when they look into the tray.

Which insert types are there?

Most displays use one of these; some combine two, such as a platform with a die cut top.

  • Die cut holders: a sheet with holes shaped to your products.
  • Grid dividers: interlocking strips that make cells.
  • Raised platforms: folded supports that lift products into view.
  • Partition strips: simple lanes for flavours or shades.

Die cut holders are the most common because they suit almost any shape. Grid dividers are quicker to make for square items and can be folded flat when the display is empty. Raised platforms are a small detail that makes a big difference behind a window, where a product sitting low in a deep box looks lost.

When products vary in size, such as handmade candles or hand poured jars, we cut to the largest and add a little extra clearance, so every item fits even if some sit slightly looser than others.

Can inserts be made for my existing boxes?

Yes. Many orders are for boxes customers already use. Send the inside measurements or a sample and the products that go in. See display box inserts for photos and the full specification.

Inserts are also a simple way to turn a plain shipping box into a counter display: add a printed insert that holds the products upright, cut a low front, and the box sells as well as it carries.

How is an insert measured?

A full size printed proof is the best test: lay your products on it before anything is cut.

  1. Measure the inside of the box or display, not the outside.
  2. Measure each product with caps and lids on.
  3. Decide the layout and how many of each.
  4. Send the sizes and layout, and we draw the insert for a full size proof.

Remember to include caps, pumps, lids and labels in your measurements. A dropper bottle measured without its cap will not fit a cut out sized to the glass alone.

Should inserts be printed?

Visible inserts look far better printed in a brand colour or pattern, because they frame the products when a display or box is opened. Hidden supports can stay plain. Printing an insert costs less than you might expect when it is done on the same run as the display.

A dark insert makes light products stand out; a white or pale insert suits dark or richly coloured products. Kraft looks natural with almost anything.

What do inserts cost?

Inserts start from £0.25 an insert, priced per job by size, board, print and quantity. Minimums are low. Ordered with a display, they are cut on the same run and packed together, then delivered free and tracked to the UK mainland.

Plain inserts cost less than printed ones, and simple partition strips cost less than shaped die cut holders, so tell us what the insert must do and we suggest the most economical build.

How long do inserts take?

The same as displays: a price by email within one working day, a free proof, then 5 to 7 working days of production after you approve it.

Repeat orders reuse the same cutting form, so reprints are quicker to prepare.

Inserts and Dividers FAQs

More answers in Help

Can I order inserts without a display?

Yes. Inserts can be ordered on their own for boxes you already use.

What is the difference between a divider and an insert?

A divider splits a space into lanes or cells; an insert usually holds each product in a shaped cut out.

Which board is best for inserts?

Card for light products, E flute for glass and heavier items.

Can an insert hold different shapes?

Yes. Each cut out is shaped to its product.

Do inserts come flat?

Yes, flat or pre-folded, ready to drop in.

Can inserts be printed?

Yes, in one colour or full colour.

How accurate are the cut outs?

Cut to your sizes with a small clearance, tested on a full size proof.

Can inserts lift products closer to a window?

Yes. A raised platform does exactly that.

Do inserts protect products in transit?

Yes. They stop products moving inside a full display or box.

Can I reorder the same inserts?

Yes. We keep the dieline on file for repeat orders.
